Heinrich, Philip and Ingrid van den Berg are internationally acclaimed nature photographers. They are well known for pushing the boundaries of photography to create explosive images that are as beautiful as they are emotive.
They learnt the hard way. Having begun their photography on film with completely manual cameras, they over the years spent a fortune on photographic equipment, trips and film to learn the tricks of getting those elusive, prize-winning images. Small wonder that more than a decade ago, they decided to make it a full time obsession. The Van den Bergs have a lifetime of knowledge to share with other photographers, and in the ‘phototips’ series of books, they disclose it all.
Heinrich van den Berg is an accomplished writer and publisher. He heads his own publishing company, HPH Publishing, and has successfully published over 20 full-colour wildlife titles since 2001. His books are highly acclaimed for both their quality and content. An established assignment and stock photographer, he does work for clients such as Discovery Channel’s Animal Planet and Getty Images. Van den Berg shares his knowledge of photography through workshops held in various parts of southern Africa. Find out more about Heinrich van den Berg at www.heinrichvandenberg.com
‘We’ve been students of photography for a very long time’, says Heinrich, ‘but we can’t claim to know much about it at all, because the more we learn the more we realise what amateurs we still are. We can’t claim to know more than some passionate photographers who started their photography in the digital age. The new generation of photographers tend to be exceptionally creative, as they are not bound by the limitations of emulsion film that the previous generation still have at the back of their minds. Often the memory of film is like a chain, dragging on the seasoned photographers’ feet’, he claims, ‘but there are skills and knowhow that you can only gain through many years of experience.’
Husband and wife award-winning photographers Philip and Ingrid van den Berg share a love of Africa and all its facets. It is their passion to capture unique moments in nature and share these with readers, through the pages of their wildlife books. With their extensive knowledge of the natural world coupled with their scientific backgrounds, they are an integral part of the HPH team of photographers and writers. Their photographs grace numerous prestigious books, calendars, magazine portfolios and photographic publications across the globe.
The Van den Berg’s are the perfect tutors to take you down the wild and winding road of photography.
